Cordell Motor Co. was opened in 1929 by Luther "Dick" Cordell. In 1950 Cordell Motor Co. incorporated into what is now known as Carolina Truck & Body Co., Inc. At this time Carolina Truck & Body Co., Inc. became the original GMC dealership for Asheville, NC. Geary Luther Cordell purchased Carolina Truck & Body Co., Inc. in 1968 from his father. In 1972 he moved the company to it's current location at 1895 Old Haywood Rd. In the following years Mr. Cordell proceeded to become a leader in the medium and heavy duty industry; the company grew to become one of the only "one-stop" dealerships of it's industry in WNC. In 1996 Mr. Cordell acquired the Western Star heavy duty franchise and continued to operate the company until his death in 2007. Since this time the company has been operated by his granddaughter, Lauren A Smathers, who worked closely with Mr. Cordell in the years prior to his death.Carolina Truck & Body Co., Inc. continues to be a full service medium and heavy duty dealership for both the GMC and Western Star brand trucks. In conjunction with their franchises they offer a full service mechanical department, body shop, 24-Hour wrecker service, and extensive parts warehouse specializing in name brand components. The organization continues to be a fourth generation family owned business striving to fulfill the needs of WNC by continuing to be a "one-stop" dealership.
